The Initiative for Responsible Mining Assurance (IRMA) envisions a world in which the mining industry respects the human rights and aspirations of affected communities, provides safe, healthy and supportive workplaces, minimises harm to the environment, and leaves positive legacies. IRMA’s Standard for Responsible Mining provides the world’s first shared definition of what constitutes leading practices in social and environmental responsibility for large-scale mining operations.
Having just completed a visual rebrand, IRMA were looking for a web developer to bring their new identity to their website, to apply a fresh sense of credibility, consistency and aesthetic appeal.
The IRMA website serves several important functions: not only in promoting and educating on IRMA’s unique ‘Standard for Responsible Mining’ and the latest news in the efforts towards more sustainable mining on a global scale, but also how organisations of many different kinds, from government to finance sector to companies throughout the mined materials supply chain can contribute and benefit.
As well as overhauling the website’s design theme, Createful implemented a host of performance and security updates to improve the website’s speed, search engine ranking and robustness.
The updated IRMA website embodies the consistency, clarity and vibrance of the new brand
A new hosting platform and a suite of performance enhancements bolsters the site’s robustness
An overhauled homepage tells the story of IRMA and how organisations can get involved
We needed to ensure that the entire website reflects the new brand, whilst also improving the impact and clarity of the site as much as possible in the process. This would mean changing the underlying structure of the WordPress theme to be based upon the new colour scheme, typography and design rules, as well as producing a set of targeted page redesigns, most notably the home page.
We also worked with the IRMA team to identify the areas of the website that were underperforming, and those most in need of usability improvements, based on feedback they’d received from end users, stakeholders and partners.
To communicate our ideas, we created an interactive prototype, presented on InVision, which simulates the experience of using the website with the new design, as well as providing a means for gathering feedback.
To address some knowledge gaps in the client’s team when it came to using the CMS, we rounded off the project with a training workshop.
This project was a great opportunity to work with a small client team that's making a huge positive impact. We really enjoyed helping to improve and reinvigorate the website’s experience, and make it more performant and secure.
After a successful first project together, Createful continues to provide IRMA with digital consultancy to help them achieve the best with their digital platform.
