A unique data platform
Global Canopy approached Createful following our work on the SCRIPT platform to develop another dynamic data driven platform that tracks the power, policies, and self-reported progress of companies involved in soy and cattle supply chains in Latin America.
Cattle is one of the largest drivers of tropical deforestation globally. It accounts for an enormous amount of forest clearing in Brazil, while the conversion of forests into soy plantations continues to increase in Latin America. More than two thirds of deforestation in these areas is the result of soy and beef production. As global demand for these commodities increases, these biodiversity hotspots are coming under ever greater threat.
The Company Action platform needed to enable civil society organisations to obtain up-to-date information on company performance across forest risk commodity supply chains to guide targeted advocacy and engagement work. We needed to develop an adaptable and data-driven information system that enables organisations to carry out two key actions. Firstly, to access data on company commitments, performance, and leverage as obtained from Global Canopy’s assessment of approximately 137 companies. And secondly, to obtain insights on company performance across key geographies, supply chain segments and/or commodities.
We presented the team at Createful a complex, data-driven challenge within a restrictive timeline. They responded by delivering, on-time, a visually stunning tool that simplified the presentation of the data and allowed for our research to resonate with the audience.
The platform features a detailed filtering system, enabling users to locate relevant assessments across a variety of dimensions including commodity, supply and sourcing geographies, headquaters location and sector.
Despite the tight timescale, the teams at Createful and Global Canopy pulled together to sketch, prototype, test and build the platform whilst also creating a fresh visual design.
